This spring, the high-speed rail graduate studio at the University of Pennsylvania led by PennDesign Dean Marilyn Jordan Taylor and Regional Plan Association President (and co-chair of the Business Alliance) Bob Yaro spent the semester researching how to structure a true high-speed rail line in the Northeast Corridor to create a realistic implementation plan. Now in its second year, this studio built off last year's analysis of what a high-speed rail line in the Northeast Corridor would look like. This year, the students explored the difficult issues of governance, finance, intermodal connectivity, station area revitalization, and economic development. They learned from a devoted team of expert advisors, an overseas trip to experience their European case studies, and a week-long charrette workshop in Madrid.
The studio's final report and presentation, "High-Speed Rail in the Northeast Megaregion: From Vision to Reality," will be available soon and will be posted on this page, so stay tuned. For now, you can download the executive summary below.
